To answer your question simply, it seems like yes, you can distinguish between remotes. Then, on your Apple TV > Settings > General > Remotes, you can pair the remaining remotes. Press and hold the Menu and Next/Fast-forward buttons simultaneously on the remote for 5 seconds. Point the remote at the infrared sensor on the front of your Mac. Get very close to your Mac (about 3 or 4 inches away). The issue is, until you do that, it states under the option for disabling the IP receiver "This computer will work with any available remote.". From the Apple support page 'Pairing your Apple Remote with your computer': Log in on your Mac as an Admin user. You can then pair which remote you want to your iMac. If you click that, it will tell you how to pair the remote. For example, this website purports to sell IR receivers with either USB-A or USB-C connectivity. This is because Ferd II must have one paired. There are a number of third-party IR receivers that can plug into a modern Apple product via USB and (supposedly) will allow you to use your old-style infrared Apple Remote with a newer computer. As can be seen in the image, it says "Unpair" under the option "Disable remote control IR receiver". I don't have two remotes, so can't fully confirm if it works properly or not, but there is a "pair" function. ![]()
